Little Black Dress Club Awards $10,000 to Five Wood River Valley Non-profit Organizations

Through the mission of introducing women to philanthropy, Little Black Dress Club-Wood River has inspired positive changes in the Wood River Valley community. Since it’s inception five years ago, the member-based club has given over $72,000 to 26 different organizations.

LBDC-WR is happy to announce the five recipients of the recently completed 2014 grant season. In total $10,000 will be awarded to: Wood River Chess Club, Hunger Coalition, Crisis Hotline, Girls on the Run of the Wood River Valley, and the Bellevue Library.

According to Wood River Chess Club advisor Adam Porth, who was the top voted organizations in the fall grant session and won their full request, “not only is the club emphasizing intellectual and academic development of our student’s mind through the sport of chess and related activities, it’s sometimes the one thing that brought them to school when they might not have otherwise come.”

The LBDC-WR club’s membership has grown in recent months, therefore allowing for more collecting giving to Wood River Valley organizations. Currently with over 60 members giving annually to the fund, the Club is striving to reach 100 members in 2015. Founding member Lynn Campion noted, “The increase in membership demonstrates how our community is evolving philanthropically.”

Little Black Dress Club will be hosting a Grants Awards Celebration at the Muleshoe in Hailey on Wednesday, Nov. 19th from 5:30-7:00 p.m. For those interested in joining the fun, meeting like-minded women, and learning a little about the organizations that the Club has helped this grant season, please come to the Muleshoe Tavern & Steakhouse 107 S. Main St. in Hailey.
